Travel Sickness

The cause of travel sickness is the motion of the boat or vehicle and this impacts on the inner ear which communicates with the part of the brain that controls balance and equilibrium.  There are numerous ways to relieve this with over-the counter-medicines which should be taken as directed and well before you about to travel to allow them to take effect.

If you prefer natural remedies, crystallised ginger settles the stomach and you can purchase wrist bands from chemists which are said to be based on Chinese methods of treating illness by using pressure points: the bands have a little knob that presses on a point on the inside of the wrist just above the hand.

Other ways of alleviating seasickness including not drinking alcohol, don’t travel on an empty stomach and eat easily digested foods, relatively bland and not highly flavoured or spiced.  Keep yourself occupied to take your mind off how you might feel, and try some time on deck taking in the fresh sea air.
